Search Engines Optimization is a critical component in the marketing of any commercial web site. It is also one of the greatest mystery's
known to any web site owner. Did you know that the "search engines" do not even care about "web sites" at all.  Why is that?
There is a great deal of misinformation surrounding the major search engines and optimizing web sites accordingly. First there is two types of "Search Engines" a) Directories (Ie.. Yahoo.com) b) Spider Based Search Engines...
Directories such as Yahoo.com is a combination of free listings and paid listings. Conversely, the free "spider" based search engines still comprise the majority of referral traffic available to legitimate commercial web sites.

You also must understand these "Search Engines" who ever they be, DO NOT care about you and I. They are NOT there to serve the marketing needs of web sites like ours or yours... All they care about is "relative searches". This means when a surfer is (for example) searching for "Christmas Can openers", they find sites offering various types of "Christmas Can openers" and not sites that are selling tires Or adult content and so on.

Having said that, the process of getting your site properly registered with the search engines is VERY complicated and in most cases you do NOT want to try to do this on your own without professional help.

The reason for this is simple, In past a zillion web masters attempted to "cheat" the search engines with false listing information and they still try that everyday. Therefore, the major search engines are forced to make it very difficult to get properly listed in a "relevant" category(s) that you are seeking. Then of course there is the issue of "placement position" in your relevant category.

Everyone wants to be in the "Top Ten" position on all search engines. And there are even service based firms that claim that they can guarantee top 10 placement for a fee... Well, for lack of a better term, that is pure "BS". Do the math in your head and you will agree.

Finally, with proper planning, key word design, research, and code optimization your web site can obtain reasonable placement with the search engines that will bring you more leads and customers..
